Quiz # 2
Timeout.kz, I decided to take exactly this site, because I think it can be an example of online participatory journalism. May be it’s not one of the best examples, but according to the description in We Media it’s made by a group of citizens, which plays an active role in the process of collecting, reporting and analyzing the news.
But what kind of news? The main idea of this site is to help citizens or guests of Almaty to find some specific places which they can visit, such as restaurants, bars, night clubs, theaters, cinemas and so on. Also it is possible to read something about new books, movies and some events. I really like this site because, the style of posts is journalistic, but not boring, the most important is that I can leave my own comment and say whatever I want, not really afraid for my safety, because I can make my comment anonymous. If it is important I can read some comments of others and make my own decision about a thing which the post was telling to the reader.
That’s why I think it can be an example of participatory journalism, in the book “We Media” it said that a main characteristic of PJ is conversation. Different people can leave their comments, it doesn’t matter are you a journalist or not.
The rules of participation are simple, it’s not necessary to make an account, you can just enter the site and read all information that you have to and leave a comment if you are agree or disagree with the writer. Also at this site people can find out some news about events such as: presentations of new places, parties, concerts and so on. You can find there a lot of information about sport clubs, shopping, spa and beauty centers. People who made this site wanted to help to have a better orientation in the city we live in. The information is refreshing time to time, only when something is happening in Almaty, usually weekly. This site is an electronic version of a magazine “Time Out Almaty”, so it’s easy to subscribe to this magazine online. Also if you want to, you can select another city in which this electronic magazine is located and find out about whole necessary information about the city you have selected . This magazine is worldwide popular, that’s why it’s interesting to visit this site. People can find information about restaurants, shopping and all the stuff in New York, London, Moscow, Dubai and so on.
It’s not a civic journalism, because civic journalism is often focuses on large issues, such as politics and crime, this site is more day-to-day. And I think it’s very convenient for people, I found out for myself a lot of new places which I can visit at my free time, I read a good recommendations and opinions of other guests of the site. The weakness of this site is that people can find the information only about one city of Kazakhstan – Almaty, but the whole country.
The participatory journalism should have a positive effect on the community, according to the We Media, this site can make a positive effect, because it can help people to decide where to go, what to do at their free time and what is happening in the city.
Quiz #1: Communities and needs
A lot of people are involved in different online or off line communities. What for people are doing this? One of the most popular reasons is to make a connection with other people. There a lot of communities where people can meet each other.
I have got a lot of friends who live and study in different parts of the world, and I can’t phone them every day, because it costs a lot, that’s why I was trying to find some decision, and I found it. There are 3 popular web communities that I know where people can meet and communicate with their friends and relatives, to make some new connections, they can inform about whatever they want and be also informed, people can entertain and do a lot of different stuff. These web communities are: www.vkontakte.ru , www.facebook.com, www. Hi5.com. I have got an account on each of these web sites. “Vkontakte” this is a popular community where you can easily create an account and search there for your friends. Usually I send a lot of messages to my friends, I can send an online invitations, share with my videos, music and photos, put some comments and so on. The same with others, at “facebook”, you can meet a lot of foreign students and interesting people, communicate with them and even improve your English or French, or whatever language. This kind of communities are really helpful for me, I met a lot of my old friends and relatives, where we can have fun sending each other some games or video clips, or just looking at each other’s photos. I can be informed about how my friends are dealing with the university, school or college. I can be informed with some of my friends about what is happening in the world of music, fashion and politics. These kinds of communities are really interesting and entertaining. I can create there my own little community, for example I have created a “Fashion community”, community of people who have studied in my school (ISA) and so on. This can do every person and involve in this group some of his friends and share there with ideas and some stuff.
People always wanted to communicate and I think that each person had a situation when he lost the connection with some of his old friends or relatives and this kind of web communities can be a great help for this people, or even for people who just want to meet new friends and have fun.
What is Journalism?
Journalism is something without there would be no media, no magazines, newspapers and so on. Journalism is important part of the life of each person. Every morning we wake up and switch on the BBC and watch what is in the world today, only with the help of the journalists, who are working day and night we can know what happened. With the help of journalists we can be in course of what is happening in the world, news about celebrities, business, politics. Journalism also helps to communicate with other countries. Journalism is important also because it makes people closer to each other.
In my point of view our daily life is impossible without journalism. No Journalism-no media, and it means that we will be isolated, because we won’t know what is in the world around us.

Review of the blog that I really liked…
While I was searching for the blog that could be interesting for me, I found one interesting link: diary.ru. I decided to check what’s that, and I was surprised when I found out that this is a project, where people are making their online diaries.
These diaries are the same as blogs. People are writing there about whatever they want and their friends or just some unknown people can write their ideas about the post. The most exciting thing about that is that people are writing about their daily life, and it was so unusual for me to “read” someone’s life.
I looked through tens of diaries, and one of this blogs caught my attention. This is a blog about life of a soldier, who is telling about his experience in army(http://www.diary.ru/~Farenheit451/). It is not so easy sometimes and I thought it could be useful for a lot of people, because he is describing different situations and how he managed them. Also it is interesting just to look through his pictures and notes. This blog is like some kind of a book, where the main character is the writer of this diary. I think that kind of blogs are interesting and extraordinary, because you are discovering a real life of a real people.
John Galliano!!!!!!!!
I adore John Galliano ….OMG!!! I think he is the most extraordinary designer in the world!!!! Whom do you like??? Do you like fashion. ppl? Here is some information and pics about ma fav designer!!
Early life and career
Born in Gibraltar to a Gibraltarian father and a Spanish mother, Galliano moved to London as a child and attended Wilson’s School in Wallington. In 1984, he graduated in fashion design from St. Martin’s School of Arts with a collection inspired by the French Revolution. The collection, titled Les Incroyables, received positive reviews and was bought in its entirety by and sold in the London fashion boutique “Browns”. Galliano then started his own label under his name and began his career as a fashion designer. He was awarded British Designer of the Year in 1987, 1994 and 1995. In 1997, he shared the award with Alexander McQueen, his successor at Givenchy. Fashion guru Susannah Constantine has worked for Galliano in the past.and he has also aided the future success of other designers including the renowned shoe designer Patrick Cox.
Career
In the 1990s, Galliano relocated to Paris in search of financial backing and a strong client base. In 1991 he started his long lasting collaboration with Kylie Minogue, designing the costumes for her Let’s Get to It Tour. In 1995, he was appointed as the designer of Givenchy by Bernard Arnault owner of luxury goods congolmerate LVMH, thus becoming the first British designer to head a French haute couture house. Less than two years later, on October 14, 1996, LVMH moved Galliano to Christian Dior. His first couture show for Dior coincided with the label’s 50th anniversary, on January 20, 1997.
He has been quoted as identifying his love of theatre and femininity as central to his creations – “my role is to seduce” he has said. Galliano has reputedly cited Charlize Theron as a muse and has been creating couture dresses for her to wear to red carpet events such as the 2006 Academy Awards and the 2005 Golden Globes. She is also part of the ad campaign for Dior’s “J’Adore” perfume, while Riley Keough, granddaughter of Elvis Presley, fronts his “Miss Dior Cherie” perfume, and Kate Moss, in photographs by Nick Knight, his ready-to-wear campaigns. Cate Blanchett and Nicole Kidman have also worn dresses created by him to the Academy Awards in the past.
Currently, between his own label and Dior, Galliano produces six couture and ready-to-wear collections a year and a new mid-season range under his own name “G Galliano”.
Recently Galliano is rumoured to be collaborating with Jay-Z on the strictly limited collection of Rocawear clothing.
Personal life
Galliano says he follows a rigorous exercise regime which sees him rise at 6am each morning to complete a grueling 40-minute aerobic session with his personal trainer, before embarking on a 10-minute stretch, doing 150 push-ups and a six-mile jog along the banks of the Seine River.”Working flat out, it was a necessary step to take,” he once said. “It helps to concentrate the mind and I find that I have so much more energy and focus.”In 2000, he said that he also had found his inspiration for the couture collection of boho-meets-hobo chic he unveiled that January during his jogging sessions, when running past the homeless people lining the river. He added that he hoped to expose the pure decadence of couture by “turning it inside out”. Similarities between Galliano and the fictional amoral fashion designer Mugatu, with his “Derelicte” homeless fashion show, from the movie Zoolander have been pointed out by some commentators.
